June 10th marks a sombre anniversary, as, in 1692, Bridget Bishop was the first victim of the infamous Salem Witch Trials. Bishop, accused of witchcraft, was hanged on Gallows Hill after a controversial trial fueled by mass hysteria. Her death tragically ignited a period of fear and violence that would see nineteen others hanged, and one pressed to death.
